Bantayan Island Mayor Chris Escario has sent out a plea for help following the destruction Typhoon Haiyan wrought.
The island, which suffered perhaps hundreds of deaths, needs serious help, Escario said.
“The problems we face are overwhelming but not insurmountable,” he said via Facebook. “We need all the help you can extend us.”
While Escario said that he is virtually unreachable (he traveled all the way to the tip of Sta. Fe wharf to use Facebook), people can donate at several different places:
Cash donations may be made to The Municipality of Bantayan-Trust (Current Account) No. 00142-0199-73 at the Land Bank of the Philippines.
For deposits from outside the the Philippines, the Swift Code is TLBPPHMM.

What Bantayan needs
“Our most urgent requirements”--
Tarpaulins or laminated sacks for temporary shelter, canned goods and ready to eat food, drinking water, sleeping mats, blankets, medicines for fever, cough, colds, diarrhea, anti-tetanus, betadine, bandages, alcohol, cotton, multivitamins and minerals for both adults and children, 3n1 coffee, milk and flashlights.
Previously, the mayor said that Bantayan “looks like a war zone,” with 90 percent of the houses still standing having no roof.
