When this farmer notices one of the babies in his alpaca herd has been missing for 24 hours, he sets out to find it.
He sees its mom and discovers the baby alpaca has fallen back into a rabbit hole. It is completely stuck, with just its head poking out above the ground to see and breathe.
He will have to be the one to rescue it, so he gets a shovel and starts to dig carefully around the hole to make room for the baby to get out. Fortunately, it’s not too deep, and the baby’s head won’t be buried if the ground gives way.
He works slowly around the baby to make sure he doesn’t hurt it as momma alpaca walks around frantically.
When the farmer thinks the hole was wide enough he lay down his shovel and tried to pull the alpaca’s legs free, but it still can’t move. He picks his shovel back up and continues to work on the hole.
Finally, the hole is big enough, and the farmer reaches down into the pit and physically pulls the baby out. It stumbles a few feet and sits down, but then it climbs back onto unsteady hooves and wobbles its way over to mom.
The baby is much taller than expected – so it’s no wonder it was so stuck! In the most heart-warming part of the video, mom and baby trot away across the pasture to find the rest of the herd, and hopefully, a drink.
