The two men on the left are wearing black gloves on their left hands, which the police believe were used to trigger the hidden explosive vests they were wearing, the Daily Mail reports.

The Islamic State group claimed responsibility for the Brussels attacks, saying in a post on the group’s Amaq news agency that its extremists opened fire in the airport and “several of them” detonated suicide belts.

European security officials have been bracing for a major attack for weeks and warned that the Islamic State group was actively preparing to strike.

The Belgian prime minister has declared 3 days of national mourning in the wake of the attack.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.
