HOUSTON—Shen Yun Performing Arts New York Company’s presentation at Jones Hall in Houston Friday evening, Dec. 23, was a delight for returning audience members Maura Lannons and her mother Paddy Gordon.

Ms. Gordon, who has worked with Disney, Warner Brothers Inc., and MGM Studios sculpting collectors’ items, said the New York-based company’s production was “just perfect.”

“Oh, it’s just amazing! This is our second time to see it. This show is so beautiful! The talent of the dancers and the costumes and the music—everything is just perfect. I would really, really recommend it to other people,” she said.

Ms. Gordon thought the spiritual and political aspects of the culture were brought into the stories in a “very meaningful way.”

“The stories are very poignant, they’re very beautiful,” Ms. Gordon said. “I feel for China. China is such a beautiful, wonderful country, and to have [the culture] persecuted in any country is a terrible thing.”

As the emcees pointed out, Shen Yun’s mission is to revive 5,000 years of Chinese civilization, which includes the traditional art forms and traditional values that are not supported by China’s current government.

“It’s a monumental art form, to take 5,000 years of culture and dance. It’s just rich, amazing,” Ms. Gordon said. The dances performed included not only classical Chinese dance, but ethnic and folk dances from the many ethnicities, sub-ethnicities, and regions of China.

She added that it was the experience of a lifetime. “It’s priceless to be able to see it. It’s just a wonderful, wonderful experience and I think everyone should experience it.”

Ms. Lannons agreed. “It’s just a phenomenal show and everyone should come and see it.”
