Actress and first-time mother Anne Hathaway made an appearance on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show,” eight weeks after giving birth to a healthy boy, and shared a post-gym encounter she had with a fellow gym-goer that resulted in tears.
“I’ve been out of the house a couple of times. I’ve been to the gym—I went to the gym three times,” said Hathaway during the May 23rd airing. “Being a mom has changed me in a couple ways. I actually—not based on this moment, but other moments—feel a lot more confident.”
She continued, “You know the people who have too many muscles to be in the Avengers? That’s who works out at my gym,” she explained. “So, I would normally walk in and feel so intimidated. But I walk in and I’m like, ‘Yeah, I work out with five-pound weights, but I pushed a baby out of my body! I feel good right now!’”
The “Alice Through the Looking Glass” actress went on to reveal that she was excited to capture the gaze of a man who “looked like Thor’s trainer.” The man revealed he indeed was a trainer and the two struck up a conversation.
“I’m expecting him to say the thing that you say when someone says that they’ve had a baby. Which is, ‘Oh my God! You look great!’ Doesn’t matter if it’s true,” she said. “So, I say to this guy ‘I had a baby seven weeks ago’ and he goes, ‘Oh, trying to lose the baby weight?’”
“I just mustered up my dignity and said, ‘No, it’s a little bit too soon to worry about weight. I’m just trying to regain my strength,’” Hathaway recalled. “He said, ‘Great’ and walked away—and I cried a little bit.”
The 33-year-old Oscar winner is mother to son, Jonathan Rosebanks, whom she welcomed with husband and producer Adam Shulman in March of this year.
