Amid all the confusion about Android 5.1 Lollipop, here’s a few updates on when the OS will come out.
It’s been well-reported already that 5.1 Lollipop was rolled out for devices in Indonesia, but Mo Versi, the HTC vice president of product management, confirmed that the OS will be “tied to Google’s next MR, which is in March. Thanks,” according to AndroidPit.com.
“Android 5.1 was most recently spotted in a Nexus 5 benchmark test, indicating that it is at least up and running on devices outside of the Android One series. You can read that story and find all of the latest Nexus 5 Android update news at the link,” the site says.
However, it could be another non-5.1 update like 5.0.3. “There is an alternate theory which is that HTC could be talking about another incremental update like Android 5.0.3, but so far we haven’t really seen any evidence for that particular build. In any case take it with a grain of salt for now, but here’s hoping that HTC was referring to Android 5.1,” says Ubergizmo.
The first devices to get 5.1 will likely be the Google Nexus 5, Nexus 7, Nexus 6, Nexus 9 and Nexus 10 models.
Says AndroidOrigin: “Recent reports claim that Google may roll out the Android 5.1 Lollipop OTA to the Nexus range by the end of this month. Of course, since we are almost close to reaching the end of the month, it doesn’t seem likely that the update will be available for more than one or two Nexus devices within this time-frame. So for most of you Google Nexus owners out there, the 5.1 Lollipop update is likely to become available sometime next month.”
Meanwhile, Android 5.1 Lollipop will allow users to get rid of the invert colors and Wi-Fi quick toggles that are reviled by many. Some users have complained they inadvertently added the two toggles and it “happens by simply trying out these features and unfortunately, once you enable them, you can’t remove the respective toggles from the quick settings drawer,” writes PhoneArena.
But alas, the next update will bring a change. “Android 5.1 is also expected to bring other improvements to the sweet new take on Android, most notably visual ones,” the site says.
