Amid the confusion about when Android 5.1 Lollipop is coming out--or what it’s going to fix--reports on Friday said the Google Nexus 6 with Android 5.1 is coming March 12. It’s not clear if the March 12 date means 5.1 Lollipop will come out for the Nexus 4, Nexus 5, Nexus 7, and Nexus 10.
Phandroid.com said on Friday: “When the Nexus 6 does finally launch on Verizon, our sources tell us it will arrive with Android 5.1 which will support ‘Enhanced 4G LTE Mode’ (Advanced Calling / VoLTE) in the device’s ‘Cellular network’ settings. Maybe this is why the phone was delayed so many months after GSM models.”
Whether the Nexus 6 will get VoLTE is just a rumor, says SlashGear. “With Android 5.1, the Verizon Nexus 6 is said to gain the ability to make and receive VoLTE calls. That’s due to Android 5.1’s ‘Enhanced 4G LTE Mode’, which will seat itself int he device’s cellular network settings,” the site says.
It’s not clear if the 5.1 Lollipop update will be out on the same day for other phones.
Previous rumors have said it may be out in March, starting with the Google Nexus 4, Nexus 5, Nexus 7, and Nexus 10. It’s not clear why Google has chosen to remain mum on when it will be out.
About a week ago, an HTC executive revealed on Twitter that 5.1 Lollipop will be out in March.
Another report says that Google’s mobile operating system will get a few fixes.
According to PhoneArena.com, the upcoming Android 5.1 update for Android 5.0 Lollipop will fix the Invert Colors and Wi-Fi Hotspot features. When one enables them, they’re difficult to remove unless you uncheck the toggles from the quick settings menu.
“This is not an intuitive feature and Google is certainly aware of that. This is probably the reason why both the Invert Colors and Wi-Fi Hotspot toggles will be easily removable in the next iteration of Android. Simply tapping and holding over the toggle will allow you to hide it for good,” the site says. The website also notes that Android 5.1 Lollipop will probably fix the problems
