It has been finalized that British actor Andrew Garfield is going to replace Tobey Maguire as the new Spider-Man in the next film.

“To be Peter Parker is a huge responsibility, and it takes a lot of power, too. So, we found an amazing young man,” director Marc Webb announced.

On May 26, The Hollywood Reporter’s Heat Vision Blog listed five candidates for spider-man, and Andrew Garfield was one of them. Although fellow British actor Jamie Bell received more attention from the media, it looks like Sony prefers Garfield more.

Born in Los Angeles but raised in England, 26-year-old Andrew Garfield comes from a Jewish middle-class family.

According to his fan site, the actor was educated at the Central School of Speech and Drama in London, a University of London drama institute that has a history of more than a hundred years.

His role as Jack Burridge in the British movie “Boy A” is probably his most notable work and in 2008, Garfield received the BAFTA TV Best Actor Award for it. The audience will soon recognize him in “Never Let Me Go,” starring “Pride and Prejudice” actresses Keira Knightley and Carey Mulligan.

The spider-man reboot will be released on July 3, 2012, according to the Internet Movie Database.
