New information and interviews with friends of the American beaten to death in Greece are slowly bringing more information to light about what lead to 10 men, mostly Serbian, beating a young, entrepreneurial college graduate to death in the early morning hours of July 7.

Apparently it was not because of a selfie taken with a waitress, as indicated in Greek police statements, but because of where Bakari Henderson and his friends set their drinks down that led to the beating.

According to interviews with friends on the scene, Henderson, 22, and friends set their drinks down next to a group of men who then proceeded to break the bottles and hold them up as weapons. Police reports initially stated that the fight started over a conflict related to selfies with a waitress.

A total of nine suspects have been arrested. The ninth suspect, the one who purportedly started the fight, wasn’t arrested until today. They are scheduled to appear in court in the next few days.

The bar where the incident occurred, located on the Greek island of Zakynthos, has started to see its popularity drop on social media. So far the bar hasn’t issued an explanation or an apology for the actions of the two employees who are suspects in the beating death.

The online world is slowly brewing a backlash against the bar. The Facebook page for the bar has a user commenting that brass knuckles were used to beat Henderson. A Trip Advisor review is titled “Staff that literally beats patrons to death.”
