Amber Tamblyn has taken on a recurring role in the seventh season of House M.D., appearing in last Monday’s show as Martha Masters, a brilliant yet awkward medical student.

The 27-year-old told the Associated Press that David Shore, the creator of the TV series, offered to write a character for her in the show.

“My real life best friend is a medical student and is incredibly brilliant and a little bit socially awkward,” she told AP.

“So I told David about this and David and Katie Jacobs, who is the executive producer, were both very intrigued by it and decided to sort of model it a little bit after my friend. It sort of became an homage to my real-life best friend.”

In the most recent episode of House, called “Office Politics,” the patient is a campaign manager who will stop at nothing to get his man reelected.

Meanwhile, Tamblyn’s character Martha maintains her professional approach to her work and refuses to compromise her honesty.

Tamblyn recently filmed 127 Hours with James Franco under Slumdog Millionaire director Danny Boyle. She is also starring in Main Street with Orlando Bloom and Colin Firth.
