If you thought the upcoming Apple Watch was an interesting and intriguing departure from Apple’s comfort zone, wait until you get a load of this. According to multiple independent reports from the likes of The Wall Street Journal, The Financial Times and Reuters, Apple is developing its own car. That’s right… a car.

Top Apple rival Google has made its driverless car initiative public over the past few years, though the company’s efforts currently focus on technology that might eventually be applied to partner vehicles.

In Apple’s case, it looks like the company is actually developing its own car that should someday hit the streets — and here is everything we know about it so far.

DON'T MISS: Apple’s top-secret car prototype gets caught on video

Apple CEO Tim Cook said during an interview last year that Apple is working on secret new products that nobody outside of the company knows about. Well, it looks like one of those products is no longer a secret.

For the time being, there are only two things we know with any certainty. One is that if Apple is in fact working on its own car, it’s in the very early stages.

The second thing we know with even more certainty is that for the time being, absolutely nothing is confirmed.

With that said The Wall Street Journal, The Financial Times and Reuters are all very reliable sources of unannounced information when it comes to companies’ plans, and as the saying goes, where there’s smoke, there’s fire.

As a result, Business Insider has put together a great quick list of all of the key details about Apple’s car project that have been reported so far.

Starting at the beginning, we know that Apple’s car project is internally referred to as “Project Titan.” From all accounts, it involves electric car technology similar to the tech that powers Tesla’s vehicles, and Apple has gone as far as to steal a number of experts who had previously worked at Tesla.

Autonomous technology is also believed to be a big part of Project Titan, similar to the driverless cars Google is working on. “It’s a software game. It’s all about autonomous driving,” one unnamed source told Reuters.

For the time being, Apple is believed to be testing some of its technology on a fleet of minivans, and one of them was recently caught on video for the first time.

We also know that the team working on the Apple car is big and getting bigger — a report stated that the team has been given the go ahead to hire as many as 1,000 people.
