Allstate BCS National Championship Game - LSU v Alabama

The Alabama Crimson Tide (12-1) rolled over the LSU Tigers (13-1) 21–0 Monday night in the BCS Championship game to win their second title in the last three seasons and ninth overall since 1936.

The game, a rematch of the 9–6 LSU win earlier in the season, continued as the first one did—a defensive struggle. Alabama settled for seven field goal tries (hitting five of them) before finally breaking through with a Trent Richardson 34-yard scoring run late in the fourth quarter. The touchdown was the only one in eight quarters of play against each other this season between the two programs.

The Tide’s defense was especially suffocating, allowing just five first downs and 92 total yards for the entire game. LSU was so stifled on offense, they didn’t even run a play in Alabama territory until midway through the fourth quarter.

The shutout was the first in the BCS bowl game era and the first in a title game since Miami blanked Nebraska 22–0 in the 1992 Orange Bowl.

Meanwhile for Crimson Tide head coach Nick Saban the win is his third BCS Trophy overall (most in the BCS era) following the one two years ago with the Tide and his first one, while with LSU in the 2003 season.
