The holidays are upon us and many will have their minds preoccupied with turkey, Santa Claus, family and Black Friday shopping. The thought of all those can make anyone feel overwhelmed. If you have little to do this week or just want to relax or visiting, you might want to check out these acts that are performing in New York City this week.
Monday 11/25:
1. Sky Ferriera at Rough Trade NYC: She has steadily risen up with her debut album Night Time, My Time. Her blend of Pop Rock and Dance has allowed her to open up for Icona Pop and Miley Cryus.
Tuesday 11/26:
2. Robert Randolph And the Family Band at Brooklyn Bowl: The funk/soul group will be performing at Brooklyn Bowl four days starting tomorrow. They will also perform on Wednesday, Friday and Saturday. Think of it this way: you can see a live act and bowl at the same time.
3. Smash Mouth at Gramercy Theatre: If you happen to step into Gramercy Theatre, you will be transported to the 90’s where Smash Mouth was on the top of the charts alongside with Sugar Ray and Everclear with “All Star.”
Wednesday 11/27:
4. Lauryn Hill at The Bowery Ballroom: Fresh out of her stint in prison for tax evasion, she will be performing twice at the Bowery Ballroom Wednesday. Seeing the former Fugee will come at a hefty price. Tickets for her early and late shows go for $100.
5. Slayer at Madison Square Garden: One of the biggest heavy metal bands in the world will make a stop at Madison Square Garden without former longtime drummer Dave Lombardo and recently deceased guitarist Jeff Hanneman. Along for the tour is Gojira, who is just as brutal as their predecessors.
Friday 11/29:
6. Halestorm at Terminal 5: The Grammy-Award winning band are known for their constant touring. For NYC-area Halestorm fans, it is a treat seeing the hard-rock band perform in the area, a rarity as they tend to perform in New Jersey and upstate New York.
7. Kill Your Idols at Santos Party House: For all you Hardcore fans, Kill Your Idols will be playing Friday and Saturday at Santos with Crime in Stereo and Altered Boys. For $17, it is one of the more affordable shows that is going on this week.
8. SMOG City Series DJ Set at Webster Hall: How can anyone forget about DJ and Electronic music enthusiasts. Various DJ’s will be performing at Webster Hall until the wee hours of Saturday morning. The acts include: SMOG, Alex English, Flinch and many more.
Saturday 11/30:
9. NOFX at Irving Plaza: The punk legends are hosting a House of Blues 20th Anniversary show along with “unknown” special guests. For the price of $27, it would be worth attending.
Sunday 12/1:
10. Hannah Vs. The Many at Mercury Lounge: Singer/Songwriter Hannah Fairchild considers herself an antiheroine. Whatever that means in indie lingo, go to this show and let me know after.
