A group of political squatters moved into the multi-million dollar London home owned by a son of Libyan dictator Moammar Gadhafi Wednesday.
The group, which calls itself Topple the Tyrants, said they took over the house of Seif al-Islam Gadhafi in solidarity with Libyans fighting Gadhafi’s regime, in a statement videoed by ITN News in London.
The group hung several banners on the roof and front windows of the red brick home, one of which read “Out of Libya, Out of London” with Gadhafi’s face inside a slashed circle.
A spokesman for the group said they do not trust the British government to handle the dictator’s assets and would stay in the house “until such time as we are sure that [the property] can be returned to the Libyan people,” according to the Guardian.
Police are monitoring the situation, but have so far not intervened Wednesday.
The house is valued at 10 million pounds (US$16 million), according to reports.
The British government has so far seized US$3.3 billion of Gadhafi’s assets, according to AP.
