6 Shot at California Party Despite State’s Stay-at-Home Order: Officials

At least six people were shot and injured at a California party that was being held despite the state’s stay-at-home order, according to authorities.

The Kern County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement that officials responded to a call of multiple shots fired at an apartment in Bakersfield after midnight on Saturday morning.

When deputies with the sheriff’s office arrived, they found that “a large party had been occurring at this apartment complex prior to the shooting,” according to the office.

Six victims in all were shot and were treated at a nearby hospital. All of them had non-life-threatening injuries.

The victims include a juvenile female, four adult females, and one male, the sheriff’s office said.

“The shooting suspects were described as four black males driving a white sedan. No arrests have been made at this time, and the investigation is ongoing,” the news release said.

While the sheriff’s office press release did not make mention of California Gov. Gavin Newsom’s stay-at-home order, which was extended recently to May 15, the party was held despite the order.

California is one of over 40 states that have issued such orders to mitigate the spread of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) virus, a novel coronavirus that causes the disease COVID-19.

The only states to not issue stay-at-home orders are Arkansas, Iowa, North Dakota, Nebraska, South Dakota, and Wyoming. Utah recently issued a stay-at-home mandate until the end of this month.
