The Warriors may have finally lost, but along the way, Warriors forward Draymond Green posted a rare a gem of a statline—24 points, 11 rebounds, 8 assists, 5 blocks, and 5 steals—in the Warriors’ win over the Celtics on Dec. 11. This is a 5x5 statline, which signifies when a player records at least five points, rebounds, assists, steals, and blocks. Such a feat has not been accomplished since Nicholas Batum in 2012, and then before that, Andrei Kirilenko in 2006. In honor of the 5x5’s re-emergence, we look at the five players most likely to accomplish the feat next.
Anthony Davis
2015 stats: 23.4 pts, 10.8 reb, 1.6 ast, 1.4 stl, 2.6 blk
It’s no secret that AD racks up the steals and blocks, and of course the points and rebounds are always there. The problematic stat is assists. Davis has only had 5 or more assists eight times in his career. Davis has also only had three games of 5 or more steals, though 4 steals have been a common occurrence.
Kawhi Leonard
2015 stats: 20.7 pts, 7.6 reb, 2.7 ast, 2.0 stl, 1.1 blk
This is the most likely candidate for the next 5x5. Actually, Leonard just missed a 5x5 on Nov. 27 versus the Nuggets (25 pts, 7 reb, 6 ast, 4 stl, 5 blk), a game in which he sat out the fourth quarter. It seems safe to say that given a little more playing time, Kawhi will accomplish it the next time around.
Nerlens Noel
2015 stats: 10.3 pts, 8.0 reb, 1.2 ast, 1.5 stl, 1.0 blk
Everyone acknowledges that Noel is an up-and-coming block and steal monster; the question is if he can develop his passing. Noel is young, so he still has room to grow. The former Kentucky star has had 5 or more assists three times in his career so far.
Giannis Antetokounmpo
2015 stats: 15.7 pts, 6.6 reb, 2.8 ast, 0.9 stl, 1.2 blk
The “Greek Freak” actually had the first triple double of his career in handing the Warriors their first loss of the season on Dec. 12, so a 5x5 could very well be next. Antetokounmpo will need to continue developing his steal and block game, though. He has achieved 5 steals just once in his career, and has never had 5 blocks—only 4 blocks on two occasions. The potential, however, is certainly there.
Lebron James
2015 stats: 26.4 pts, 7.7 reb, 6.4 ast, 1.4 stl, 0.7 blk
Given his well-rounded game, you'd think Lebron would have already achieved a 5x5. But the truth is, 5 blocks is a very difficult stat to obtain. Lebron has had 5 blocks three times in his career if we include the playoffs, but combined for just 4 steals in those three games. So all in all, the likelihood is not high for Lebron. But hey, you never know what kind of crazy stats a super-intense-playoff-game Lebron can pull.
