The Jeep Cherokee brand is known worldwide for being a spirited and fun vehicle to drive. Of course, Cherokee traces its DNA to the Jeep brand. Harsh terrain is a breeze with Cherokee and its expansive menu of capabilities.
An example is the Selec-Terrain traction management, a feature that is standard in the Latitude. You have five selectable settings (Auto, Snow, Sport, Sand/Mud, and Rock) that helps Jeep coordinate 12 drive systems including throttle control, transmission shifting, transfer case, traction control, and electronic stability control.
The Latitude is built around a 2.4 L Tigershark MultiAir 4-cylinder engine that generates 184 hp passed through a 9-speed automatic transmission. The Latitude’s engine delivers 21 mpg city and 28 mpg highway.
Or you can get the 3.2 L, 271 hp V6 which competes very well with Honda CR-V EX AWD, and Toyota RAV4 XLE AWD.
Cherokee Latitude 4X4 is a five-passenger all-wheel drive sport utility vehicle that has a challenging attitude and a spirit that allows you to have your way. However, this model has a different, less aggressive front end. On the other hand, with a width of 73.2 inches and length of 182 inches, the look still packs power, poise, and toughness that add up to a frisky attitude.
This vehicle has an appealing interior with a standard 5-inch touch screen, but I would recommend the 8.4-inch screen. While it doesn’t increase the size of buttons or icons, it does provide clarity in viewing navigation data.
Parkview Back-UP Camera, ambient LED interior lighting, power front windows with one-touch up and down are standard features on the Latitude that add to the safety and comfort of all passengers. The cargo management system provides 24.8 cu ft cargo capacity with all seats in place, and an astonishing 54.9 cu ft of maximum cargo space.
The center cluster 3.5-inch TFT display, tilt/telescope steering wheel column, wheel mounted audio controls, and illuminated front cup holder blends convenience and practicality.
The 17-inch aluminum wheels, trapezoidal wheel arches, daylight opening molding, distinct headlights and 7-slot grille front fascia, roof rails, and exterior badging is eye appealing, while positioning a viewer to appreciate the attractive outside styling.
The MSRP starts at $25,095 for the base Sport 4X4, and $27,095 for the next one-up Lattitude 4X4. The line goes all the way up to the $30,895 Limited. There is a $1,045 SafetyTech package that features items like Blind Spot and Cross Path Detection, and ParkSense Rear Park Assist.
Jeep Cherokee is more than just a small SUV/crossover; it traces its root way back to a vehicle that was created in a troubling World War which would go on to carry troops and supplies along the hedge rows of central Europe, through the teeming critter-infested jungles of the South Pacific, and up steep grades of the Burma foothills. Jeeps were used as ambulances, to ferry refugees to safety or positioned itself for combat with a mounted 50 caliber.
Today Jeep still delivers. Delivering people instead of troops. It no longer carries ammunition up steep grades, but folks to mountains high filled with happy campers and picnic baskets. Or maybe just a whole team of kids to a soccer tournament.
