A manhunt is underway for the last remaining inmate after 12 escaped from the Walker County Jail in Jasper, Alabama on the evening of Sunday, July 30.
Two of the inmates who escaped were in jail for attempted murder, according to the Walker County Sheriff’s Office.
The inmate still at large as of 10:30 a.m. Monday morning was identified as 24-year-old Brady Andrew Kilpatrick, a resident of Cordova, almost 30 miles northwest of Birmingham.
Kilpatrick was in jail for possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, and possession of marijuana, according to the Walker County Sheriff’s Office Facebook page.
All the inmates were between the ages of 18 and 30. Chargers the other inmates were in jail for ranged from burglary, theft, domestic violence, drug charges, breaking and entering, and disorderly conduct.
The sheriff’s office did not offer any details about how the 12 inmates escaped, but did post mug shots of each of them on their Facebook page.
They are offering a $500 reward for any information that leads to the arrest of the escapee. The police’s Facebook post has been shared over 7,300 times.
Corrections officers first found out the inmates had escaped at 6:30 p.m. Sunday, July 30, The Birmingham News reports.
Most inmates who escaped were recaptured within hours and taken back into custody late Sunday night or early Monday morning.
The Sheriff’s office has activated off-duty personnel to help with the manhunt and the Jasper Police Department is also providing assistance.
