ANAHEIM, Calif.—Detectives are searching on March 9 for a suspect involved in the murder of a 23-year-old Anaheim man who was shot to death near his home in December last year.
Police suspect Franky Mejia Echeverria, 20, of Anaheim, is responsible for the incident. A $1 million homicide warrant has been issued for his arrest.
Police are warning the public that Echeverria should be considered armed and dangerous.
David Gutierrez Hernandez, father of two, was shot at least once during a drive-by shooting on a Tuesday afternoon in December on the 2100 block of East Balsam Avenue, a residential area.
He was transported to a local hospital by emergency personnel, where he died of his injuries.
Detectives identified Echeverria and Damien Rubalcava, 21, of Costa Mesa, as suspects over the course of the following two months.
Anaheim Investigators, Orange County SWAT, and Costa Mesa Police arrested Rubalcava on March 3 on the 8100 block of 13th Street in Westminster.
Rubalcava was booked into the Anaheim Detention Facility for vandalism, assault with a deadly weapon, shooting at another person from a motor vehicle, street terrorism, and gang enhancements.
Rubalcava has since been transferred to Orange County Jail where he is being held in lieu of a $1 million bail.
Detectives have not been able to locate Echeverria as of March 9 and are seeking the public’s help.
