NEW YORK—Following a week of uproar calling for him to quit the race, mayoral candidate Anthony Weiner posted a message on his website vowing to stay in.

Editorial boards of local papers, as well as many politicians, including his fellow Democratic candidates, have called on Weiner to quit after new revelations surfaced that he continued to send racy texts after his resignation from Congress in 2011 and after a magazine profile in People Magazine on July 18, 2012.

“They don’t know New York. They certainly don’t know me,” Weiner said in the 1 minute video. “Quit isn’t the way we roll in New York City.”

With a strained voice and tired eyes, Weiner said the race was not about him, but about New Yorkers.

“If someone wants to come out with something embarrassing in your private life, you gotta talk about that for a little while,” Weiner said in the video.

Even if he chooses at some point to drop out, or is forced out, his name will be on the ballot on September 10.
