Andy Serkis, probably best known for playing Gollum in Lord of the Rings--and being a consultant on the latest Godzilla film--has been announced as one of the primary cast in Star Wars Episode 7.

The cast was announced on Tuesday.

Serkis is also starring in Animal Farm, which is filming this year.

Serkis has a long acting career dating back to 1994.

He began appearing in the Lord of the Rings films in 2001 and has been in all six films.

He is also known for playing Caesar in Rise of the Planet of the Apes and Captain Haddock in The Adventures of Tintin. He’s also appearing in future movies in these two series.

Serkis was born in Ruislip Manor in London on April 20, 1964.

Although the actors were announced for Star Wars, their roles were not. It’s unclear if Serkis is playing one of the offspring of the main stars (Hans Solo, Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia) or another role.

Star Wars Episode VII is set to hit theaters on December 18, 2015.
