KAMAKURA, Japan—A Japanese hospital president enjoyed Shen Yun Performing Arts and appreciated Shen Yun’s effort to revive the traditional culture and values. He suggested all countries learn from Shen Yun and save their own cultures.

“The overall composition of Shen Yun is very beautiful. I like it very much,” said Mr. Simakura Syuya, the president of a local hospital, after attending Shen Yun Performing Arts at the Kamakura Performing Art Center in Kamakura, Japan, on the evening of Jan. 14.

He said Shen Yun coordinates perfectly on stage dynamic backdrops, dancers, and an orchestra, creating an effect that was vivid, interesting, and amazing. Furthermore, he felt: “Something like energy dropped on my shoulder, and filled my body from head to toe. The feeling is very comfortable.”

Mr. Simakura was most impressed by the traditional culture that Shen Yun presents, which he said “resonated with my heart.” He said he thinks culture is very important for any country in the world.

“Every country has its own history and definitely has traditional culture as consequence. These cultures are meaningful to people, and we should pass them on to the next generations,” he said. “From this point of view, all countries should learn from Shen Yun … including us, Japanese, we should also pay attention [to our history] from now on, and inherit the Japanese traditional cultures.”

Also in attendance was Mr. Iwshita Naomasa, who has worked in Hong Kong and mainland China. He is the executive director of Chiyoda Manufacturing Japan.

“The Chinese culture was totally destroyed in China. But Shen Yun artists work hard to safeguard these traditional values. I felt this from the performance,” he said.

Mr. Iwshita explained the Chinese Communist Party launched the Cultural Revolution and other series of campaigns to demolish all China’s traditions and cultures in the past seven decades. He was happy to see the culture that Shen Yun saved, and enjoyed and was inspired by the dances and music that Shen Yun presents.

“Shen Yun can present the histories by using dances, it’s really amazing,” he said. “I hope Shen Yun can continue to safeguard these histories and traditional cultures.”

Ms. Kobayashi Midori, the chief physician at Kamakura General Hospital, was surprised by the rich Chinese culture that Shen Yun presents.

“What Shen Yun does is great. I hope Shen Yun can keep on working hard to finish its mission and pass the good values on to the future.”

New York-based Shen Yun is the world’s top classical Chinese dance company. It has a mission to show the beauty and goodness of the 5,000 years of China’s civilization. Chinese culture was built on values and virtues from the spiritual teachings of Buddhism, Taoism, and Confucianism, virtues like loyalty, propriety, wisdom, justice, and benevolence—values that are universal and shared the world over.

To the Heavens

“At the moment when the curtain was first opened, I felt I wasn’t in the human world,” said Mr. Nakadaira Yasumi, the technical consultant of a Japanese electronics imports and exports company.

Mr. Nakadaira said he felt he was inside the stories that Shen Yun presented, and that he transcended the human world to the heavens, which felt very exciting.

“Shen Yun is really rarely seen … It’s very beautiful,” he said. “The male dancers are extraordinary. They have outstanding jumping power, but landed on the stage floor quietly. Their skills and techniques are completely awesome.”

Mr. Nakadaira said it was impossible to choose a favorite program. “All programs of Shen Yun are magnificent. It’s very hard for me to choose which one I like more.”

Each Shen Yun performance consists of nearly 20 vignettes, presented through highly-expressive art forms such as classical Chinese dance, original orchestral music performed live, soloists who sing in the bel canto tradition, animated digital backdrops, and more.

“Shen Yun has a well-deserved reputation! I watched it. I can verify it. It’s stunning!” said Mr. Takagi Shinobu, the president of a dental hospital. “It made me feel the world is very big.”

Mr. Takagi said that he couldn’t explain why, but simply felt that Shen Yun was fantastic. “It’s very touching.”

“The show is astounding. The dances are gorgeous, and the live orchestra is amazing,” said Ms. Tomuburinn Mika, “I was touched by this excellent performance. I definitely will attend next year.”

Ms. Tomuburinn is a project manager of U.S. forces stationed in Japan. She said Shen Yun delivers important messages by using interesting formats, which they pulled off perfectly.

“It’s really beautiful! The dancers must practice very hard to have these bodies. I admire their bodies’ flexibility. Their movements are very graceful,” she said.
