Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. on ABC airs on a special evening on Tuesday with all-new episode 18 of season 1, titled “Providence.”
The episode airs at 9 p.m. after a re-run of last week’s episode.
That episode saw several major reveals including The Clairvoyant, who orchestrated the attacks against S.H.I.E.L.D., is actually Agent Garrett.
It was also revealed that Agent Ward is on the enemy’s side.
Coulson is at increased risk because he’s just found out Agent May knew the truth about his “death” all along, and that she was behind the assembly of the team.
“Coulson is deeply wounded,” executive producer Maurissa Tancharoen told TVLine. “She said to him that she [concealed the truth] out of a place for caring for him, but it will take him a while to believe anything she says.”
As for the Ward situation, he could end up turning again in the end. You’ll learn a lot more” about his true agenda, executive producer Jed Whedon said. “You’ll get a glimpse of a side of Ward we didn’t know was there.” A sneak peek from The Wrap (embedded above) shows Ward delivering a gift from Garrett to one of S.H.I.E.L.D.’s most cunning villains.
And Coulson may end up needing to battle Garrett at some point.
“May asked him, ‘What are we going to do now?’ and he says, ‘Survive”– and survival is a big part of it,” Tancharoen said. “But there may also be a personal need to take down Garrett. There will be some tension to play, having this snake in the grass.”
In addition to everything else, Colonel Glenn Talbot is now on the team’s trail, forcing Coulson and the team “to seek refuge in the last place anyone would look, where they begin to uncover S.H.I.E.L.D.’s most dangerous secrets--secrets that could destroy them all,” according to the official synopsis.
