A 26-year-old man suspected of burglarizing a home in Irvine was arrested at his home in Fontana where over $125,000 in cash and the victim’s watch were found, police said on July 7.
Officers responded at around 12:30 a.m. July 5 to a report about a residential burglary on Iluna near Gravity in the Altair community, according to Irvine Police Department Sgt. Karie Davies.
The victim returned to his home around midnight and noticed the rear sliding door was opened and he was missing cash and jewelry, Davies said.
Detectives obtained surveillance footage from the scene that revealed a silver Honda Odyssey minivan tailgating another vehicle into the gated community at around 9:15 p.m. on July 4.
The vehicle was seen parked near the victim’s residence, Davies said.
“A man exited the vehicle, walked towards the home, and was seen leaving the home with items in his hands,” Davies said in a statement.
The exact presumed vehicle was spotted entering the neighborhood on June 25, allegedly driven by a man who briefly exited the vehicle and had his image taken by a camera, according to Davies.
Detectives identified Fontana resident Matty Chavoshi as a person of interest in the burglary. Investigators executed a search warrant and discovered the cash and jewelry, Davies said.
Chavoshi was arrested and booked at the Orange County Jail for residential burglary.
Anyone with information regarding the burglary was urged to contact Detective Brian Felling at 949-724-7189 or [email protected].
