Two people were killed and 19 others were injured after cars crashed into a crowd in Nebraska over Memorial Day weekend, authorities said.

The incident took place near the intersection of 52nd and O streets in Lincoln on May 29 in the evening, the Lincoln Police Department said.

Two female occupants inside one of the vehicles were declared dead at the scene. Nineteen other people were transported to area hospitals, including some who were on the sidewalk when the crash occurred.

Of the injured, one had life-threatening injuries. The others did not, according to police officials.

Capt. Max Hubka, of the police department, told KETV that two vehicles went off the road and onto the sidewalk, where a crowd was taking in a classic car show.

Breeanna Shields, one of the attendees, estimated 300 to 400 people were watching the show when the crash occurred.

“At this point we think we have a good idea of what occurred,” Hubka said, adding that all the people involved were in contact with officers.

The department did not respond to a request for more information.

Video footage showed heavily damaged vehicles on the sidewalk and multiple people lying on the ground as sirens blared and first responders processed the scene.
