Two people have died and at least 15 are injured after a shooting at a large street party in Saginaw, Michigan, police said on Saturday.

The deceased victims were a 19-year-old man and a 51-year-old woman, police said in a news release.

The 15 surviving victims have been sent to local hospitals for treatment. There is no ongoing threat to the public.

The party, which had been promoted on social media, took place at Fourth St. and Johnson St.

Multiple 911 callers reported that people were shooting into the crowd around 12 a.m. local time on Saturday. Police were already nearby when reports of the shooting came in and had already been prepared to disperse the large crowd.

Before the deadly shooting, police agencies from throughout Saginaw County had dispersed large crowds multiple times, in different locations throughout the city.

Michigan State Police Saginaw Major Case Unit detectives are now investigating the incident. So far, their findings suggest that a fight broke out between partygoers, which led to people firing their guns.

In response, other people in the crowd started shooting into the crowd. Several people were hit in the process. In the ensuing panic, many people were hit by fleeing vehicles as they fled the scene, police said.

The 15 surviving victims had either been hit by a gunshot or struck by a vehicle.

At least five different caliber weapons were used in the incident, police said.

Police haven’t arrested any suspects. They are asking anyone with information about the incident to contact the Saginaw Major Case Unit at 989-759-1605. If they want to remain anonymous, they can contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-422-JAIL (5245).
