Police said that a 12-year-old boy jumped from an overpass in Fairfax, Virginia, and fell onto a car, killing a driver. The boy, however, survived the incident.
Virginia State Police spokeswoman Corinne Gelle said the incident took place Saturday afternoon, Oct. 28, on Interstate 66. The child landed on a Ford Escape.
The driver of the Escape was identified as Marisa W. Harris of Olney, Maryland. She was pronounced dead at the scene of the incident.
Her boyfriend was in the passenger’s seat, and he took control of the vehicle and steered it off the highway, WUSA reported.
Harris, according to her mother, was studying mental health counseling in a graduate program at Marymount University. The tragedy, her mom added, was “ironic” because the child would have been someone Harris could have helped.
She told the network that Harris had graduated summa cum laude from Towson University.
