The 20-year-old man from Florida who won the $450 million Mega Millions jackpot stepped forward on Friday and revealed his identity.
Shane Missler of Port Richey, Fla., was the sole winner of the Jan. 5 lottery drawing.
“Oh. My. God.” is what he posted on Facebook shortly after winning.
Here is what we know so far about the lucky winner of the enormous prize.
Missler went to Spruce Mountain High School in Jay, Maine, starting in 2011, according to his Facebook profile.
He graduated in 2015 and began attending Northern Essex Community College in Haverhill, Massachusetts, the same year. Missler pursued a degree in business management.
Also in 2015, Missler began working for the Atkinson Resort & Country Club in Atkinson, New Hampshire.
In 2016, Missler left his job at the country club, left Northern Essex Community College, and started work at Best Buy as an inventory specialist.
In 2017, Missler started working as a verifications specialist for Universal Background Screening, Inc. The company is headquartered in Scottsdale, Arizona. At one point, Missler worked for Sam’s Club as an overnight stocker.
On Facebook, Missler listed Bradley Missler as his brother and Steve Missler as his father.
Steve Missler worked as a teller at Maine State Credit Union until 2017. Before that, he was a medical assistant and Belgrade Regional Health Center.
Bradley Missler, the winner’s brother, worked as a call center supervisor for Security Source until 2017. Before that, he worked for JVT Advisors.
The winning ticket was sold at a 7-Eleven in the city, and his lawyers told WFLA that he purchased a scratch-off lottery ticket and converted it into five Mega Million quick pick tickets.
Later, the ticket was claimed at Tallahassee lottery offices. It’s not clear if he will decide on a lump sum payout of $281.2 million (after tax) or annual payments.
His lawyers told WFLA that he retired from his job at Universal Background Screening. He will now take care of his family and is “educating himself to be a good steward of this fortune.”
“Although I’m young, I’ve had a crash course this week in financial management and I feel so fortunate to have this incredible wealth and team behind me. I intend to take care of my family have some fun along the way, and cement a path for financial success so that I can leave a legacy far into the future,” Missler said in a statement.
“If there is one think I have learned thus far in my short time on this earth it is that those who maintain a positive mindset and stay true to themselves get rewarded,” he said in another statement, according to TampaBay Times. “I look forward to the future.”
The winning Mega Millions numbers were 28, 30, 39, 59, 70, and Mega Ball 10.
The 7-Eleven at 7131 Ridge Road will receive a $100,000 commission.
