LOS ANGELES—Four juveniles were in the hospital April 24 after they were trapped inside a vehicle that crashed near Boyle Heights during a pursuit by Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies.

Firefighters were called at 9:54 p.m. Tuesday to the Calzone Street off-ramp of the northbound Santa Ana (5) Freeway, where they found the trapped victims had crashed the vehicle and were able to free them using hydraulic tools, Los Angeles Fire Department spokesman Brian Humphrey said.

The short pursuit began when deputies attempted to pull the teens during a traffic stop but the driver sped away and crashed into a cinder block wall on the freeway, ABC7 reported.

According to multiple media reports, all four victims were minors, between 12 and 14 years old. All were taken to a hospital.

According to ABC7, all of the victims are expected to survive their injuries.
