A 14-year-old girl was charged with murder in Los Angeles May 7 after police allege she shot and killed a Fresno woman in March.
Los Angeles police claim the suspect shot Kendra McIntyre, 20, of Fresno, at about 4:20 a.m. March 21 while she was walking near the southeast corner of 70th and Figueroa streets in Los Angeles, a dangerous area known for human trafficking.
The juvenile suspect was arrested Monday by LAPD detectives and charged as a juvenile with murder Tuesday by the county’s district attorney.
Ms. McIntyre was taken to a local hospital where she died of her injuries, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.
Her family told Fresno-based KGPE News she was caught up in human trafficking when she was gunned down. She had recently been diagnosed with bipolar disorder, according to her mother, Debra Rush.
Ms. Rush was also involved in sex trafficking because of a drug addiction, she told the news station, but had found her way out through the justice system. She went on to co-found Breaking the Chains, a nonprofit in Fresno focused on providing healing for human trafficking survivors, according to the news station.
