College Station Mayor Karl Mooney and his wife watched Shen Yun at the Rudder Auditorium in College Station, Texas, on Feb. 13. He called it “eye-opening.”

“We’re having a wonderful time. The dancing is just spectacular. The choreography is so precise, and the costumes, the use of the animation, which really comes alive for you right there on stage, and so it was eye-opening,” said Mooney.

The classical Chinese dance and music company was well received in the city—there was such a demand for tickets that organizers added seats to the show on Tuesday, Feb. 13.

“The performers were outstanding, the music was wonderful, it was just very, very good,” said John McKemie, senior vice president for sales consulting at Treasury Management Advisors.

Story-based dance is one of the ways Shen Yun brings traditional Chinese culture to life. It has stories that portray historical figures from Chinese legends.

“I love the fact that it’s capturing a broad range of Chinese history and Chinese culture. [Traditional Chinese culture] has an enormous amount of beauty and passion connected to it,” said Michael K. Young, president of Texas A&M University.

‘‘I’m just very thankful that a presentation of this quality has come here to College Station, and I would hope that others, that when it comes to their community, [they] will take advantage of seeing it with family members of all ages,’' said Mayor Mooney.
