SAN SEBASTIAN, Spain—Muriel Larrea Laso, Member of the Basque Parliament for the Popular Party and president of the Popular Party of Gipuzkoa, is a fan of Shen Yun.
“I am a regular at these shows, I came last year, I am passionate about everything that is Chinese culture,” said Ms. Laso after attending the opening night of Shen Yun Performing Arts at the Auditorio Kursaal in San Sebastian, Spain, on Jan. 31.
She continued, “Especially since I have known the Chinese culture from the historical point of view of what religion is, how it has been banned by communism, and how there is this difficulty in China to express their religion freely. I strongly believe in individual freedom, and I think what is happening is inconceivable.”
New York-based Shen Yun is the world’s top classical Chinese dance company, and in recent years audiences have come to know the performance for its presentation of “China before communism.”
Shen Yun’s mission is to revive the 5,000 years of divinely inspired civilization, with a culture imparted by the heavens and a society that lived by virtues and values from Buddhism, Taoism, and Confucianism. This traditional culture is precisely what the communist regime set out to destroy when it took power 70 years ago.
“I’m passionate about that!” Ms. Laso said. “It’s a very recommendable show. It’s a show with a lot of light, with a lot of color. It’s an exciting show, for all audiences, for all ages.”
