KAWAGUCHI, Japan—Shen Yun Performing Arts World Company kicked off the first of three performances at the Kawaguchi Comprehensive Cultural Center Lilia in Kawaguchi, Japan, on Jan. 17. Attendees expressed their joy and happiness after attending the show.

“Shen Yun is worth attending again and again!” said Mr. Kawamoto Hideki, the president of a medical system development company.

“Seeing it for yourself is a hundred times better than what you hear from others,“ he said, adding, ”Shen Yun has important educational significance for modern people.”

Mr. Kawamoto said he was captivated by Shen Yun, and Shen Yun is a must-see performance for three reasons.

“The dancers have extraordinary skills. The costumes are gorgeous. And the dynamic backdrop is unique and creative. Shen Yun combines these three factors perfectly. It’s really worth seeing,” he said.

Mr. Kawamoto emphasized that Shen Yun delivers something of priceless value, which inspired him. He said he appreciated Shen Yun’s efforts.

“History can’t be purchased with any money. It’s accumulated with the times changing … History is the foundation (of a nation),” he said. “Shen Yun perfectly interprets the 5,000-year history and culture of China in the form of art … So I say Shen Yun is a must-see.”

New York-based Shen Yun is the world’s top classical Chinese dance company. It has a mission to show the beauty and goodness of the 5,000 years of China’s civilization.

Chinese culture was built on values and virtues from the spiritual teachings of Buddhism, Taoism, and Confucianism, virtues like loyalty, propriety, wisdom, justice, and benevolence—values that are universal and shared the world over.

‘I Want to Attend Shen Yun Every Year’

“The classical Chinese dance is awesome. It’s very beautiful. No matter the male dancers or female dancers, their skills and techniques are outstanding. They bring you aesthetic feelings, they are fantastic,” said Mr. Kawai Minetaka, a department manager of a Japanese bank.

Mr. Kawai marveled at Shen Yun’s patented dynamic backdrops, which can extend the stage to a broader and wider space.

“This is the first time I saw a backdrop that can present the scenes of historical stories and legends so vividly. It’s very interesting,” he said.

Mr. Kawai had worked at a bank in Hong Kong for five years and said he likes traditional Chinese culture.

“I think the traditional Chinese culture is very nice. Shen Yun uses the art form to save and pass on the Chinese traditions and culture … I admire these artists very much,” he said. “Watching their performance, I have an inexplicable sense of nostalgia.”

Mr. Kawai said he enjoyed Shen Yun a lot, and he was very happy to know that Shen Yun has an entirely new production every year.

“From now on, I want to attend Shen Yun every year,” he said.

Each Shen Yun performance consists of nearly 20 vignettes, presented through highly-expressive art forms such as classical Chinese dance, original orchestral music performed live, soloists who sing in the bel canto tradition, animated digital backdrops, and more.
