CLAREMONT, Calif.—“It’s a wonderful production because it’s positive, beautiful, and emphasizes what China should be and could be,” said John Aylyng, dairy business owner, about Shen Yun Performing Arts.
This is the third time Mr. Aylyng has seen Shen Yun, and he said the production at the Bridges Auditorium on March 12 was “the best one” yet.
“The stories were funny, beautiful, and fast-moving … really exciting,” he said.
New York-based Shen Yun Performing Arts is the world’s premier classical Chinese dance company. Through the universal language of music and dance, Shen Yun presents story-based dances depicting heavenly realms, ancient legends, and modern heroic tales spanning 5,000 years of traditional Chinese culture.
Mr. Aylyng originally saw Shen Yun years ago when there were only two companies touring. Since the company’s inception in 2006, they have grown from one to eight equally large companies that tour the world simultaneously, presenting a new show every year.
“It’s good to see it so well-supported” said Mr. Aylyng, “I’m glad to see the auditorium with so many people in it.”
“The anti-spiritual media brainwashes people all the time and it’s nice to see traditional values emphasized so beautifully and completely.”Drawing upon ancient China’s Buddhist and Daoist philosophies, Shen Yun aims to revive China’s traditional culture. The age-old culture has been on the brink of extinction since the Chinese communist regime seized power in 1949. Shen Yun says its performance this year demonstrates “China before communism.”
Mr. Aylyng said Shen Yun brings a message of hope “that maybe more people will think this way and be kinder and better people because of it.”
