ODENSE, Denmark—Senior Danish parliament member Søren Espersen came to see Shen Yun Performing Arts with his wife, Yvette, where, for the first time, they experienced true Chinese culture.

“[Shen Yun] gives a unique chance to see and experience Chinese culture in all its variety and fantastic ways,” said Mr. Espersen, a senior member of parliament and the chairman of the church committee of the Danish parliament.

Shen Yun is based in New York, and its mission is to revive 5,000 years of Chinese culture.
“It is very fresh. I like Asian culture. I have not seen Chinese culture before. It is so beautiful,” said Mrs. Espersen, who worked in media.
China before communism is what Shen Yun is passionate about showing the world.

“It is kind of symbolic of the culture that has been removed from China. And so the heart was there, and it was very moving. I was touched by that,” she said.

The artists use classical Chinese dance to tell stories from China’s history and literature. One story that particularly struck Mrs. Espersen told the tale of a family being broken apart due to the persecution targetting Chinese who practice Falun Gong. The performance also included a depiction of state-sanctioned forced organ harvesting.

“Culture is so very important to people, and it must be difficult. That’s why it touched me in the modern scene with the heart being taken out. Even though it’s barbaric, it is symbolic. So it was moving for me,” said Mrs. Espersen.

Digital Backdrop

Shen Yun’s use of its digital backdrop is patented. The projection extends the stage endlessly, allowing dancers to interact and pop on and off the stage in the blink of an eye.

“Fantastic show and I like this interaction between what’s going on on the screen and what’s taking place on the stage. And how they jump in and out, the picture is fabulous. I don’t think I’ve ever seen anything like it,” said Mr. Espersen.
