NEW YORK—Actor Dennis Brito experienced Shen Yun Performing Arts on April 28, and the rich Chinese culture presented in the performance stood out to him.

“It’s wonderful, I had never seen anything like this before,” he said after seeing Shen Yun at Lincoln Center. “It’s a show that has a lot of class and has a lot of prestige.”

Shen Yun, based in New York, formed in 2007 to revive the divinely inspired, 5,000 years of traditional Chinese culture.

“Through the universal language of music and dance, Shen Yun weaves a wondrous tapestry of heavenly realms, ancient legends, and modern heroic tales, taking you on a journey through 5,000 years of Chinese culture,” explains the company’s website. “Its stunning beauty and tremendous energy leave audiences uplifted and inspired.”

Mr. Brito said that even though it was unfortunate they couldn’t perform in their own county, at least they are able to express themselves all over the world. He also saw that the artists of Shen Yun have a lot of pride in reviving the culture.

“It’s just terrific, and very entertaining,” he said.

Kim Prcci, who accompanied Mr. Brito to the performance, said that she enjoyed the music—the orchestra that combines both classical Western and Chinese instruments—as well as the handmade costumes.

The Shen Yun website announces, “From the moment the gong is struck to herald the beginning of the show you know you are in for something musically memorable.”

“It’s beautiful,” she said. “It’s been a nice surprise, and definitely a departure from what we normally see in New York at the theater.”
