Tebow bill: First there was a White House petition for Tim Tebow, and now there are a bills named after him. The state of Indiana Texas Senate passed their versions of the “Tim Tebow” bill to let home-schooled athletes play for local public schools
The Times of Northwest Indiana reported that the Indiana High School Athletic Association adopted a bylaw named after Tebow, who was unceremoniously cut by the New York Jets last week, that allows home-schooled children to play for a local high school.
The Dallas Morning News reported that the bill, named after Tebow as he was famously home-schooled, passed 21-7 last month but widespread media coverage of the measure didn’t emerge until recently.
Tebow and six-time NFL Pro Bowler Jason Taylor, who was also home-schooled, were in favor of the Texas bill’s passage, according to Yahoo Sports.
Other states, including North Carolina, Arkansas, and Tennessee, are considering similar bills. The Alabama Senate rejected the Tim Tebow Act and last year,Virginia shot it down.
The Texas Home School Coalition says that there are 27 states that allow home-schooled children play for local schools, according to the Morning News. Texas has around 320,000 home schooled students.
