Geno Smith fires agent: Quarterback Geno Smith, who was drafted by the New York Jets, has reportedly fired his agents after he was disappointed with his draft position.

Smith will now hire a new agent, according to a source close to the move, reported USA Today. Neither Smith or his agents have publicly confirmed his firing of the agents.

Smith was drafted 39th overall by the Jets last week.

“I don’t want to shed too much light on it but it’s not because of whole draft experience,” Smith said on NFL Sirius radio, according to the paper.

New York Daily News reporter Manish Mehta tweeted that Smith fired the agents because he “thought he would be & should be the No. 1 overall pick.”

Liz Mullen of the Sports Business Journal first reported on the firing.

ESPN reported that Smith had an “awful draft experience” last week after he waited for three hours for his name to be called.

That never happened and Smith angrily walked out after the first round, according to the network. He returned for Round 2 and was selected by the Jets.

Smith has to wait five days before he hires another agent, according to NFL rules.
