Paul Shane dies: Shane was famous for starring in a BBC sitcom, “Hi-de-Hi!” in the ‘80s.

His agent told BBC that he died surrounded by close family on May 16 from an illness. He had heart surgery several years ago.

His fans include actor Ricky Gervais, who lauded him as an “old school Britcom hero” on Twitter.

Shane was born in Rotherham in 1940 and worked as a miner until his singing in pubs and clubs got him a gig in television.

A writer saw him in a small role in a television series and cast him in “Hi-de-Hi!” Which was his breakout experience.

“Paul Shane was a consummate professional, a true gentleman, a good friend, and a joy to work with over the past 15 years,“ Shane’s agent, Linda Kremer, told the Mirror. “He didn’t suffer fools, always maintained his sense of humour, never stinted on the time he gave to his fans.”
