Investigators have found three more possible victims of California surgeon Grant Robicheaux and his girlfriend after they were charged with drugging and raping one intoxicated woman, and attempting to rape another.
Michelle Van Der Linden, a spokeswoman for the Orange County district attorney’s office, told The Associated Press that numerous people have called prosecutors since the initial charges against Robicheaux, 38, and Cerissa Laura Riley, 31, were announced on Tuesday, Sept. 18.

Processing the calls, investigators identified three more possible victims.

District Attorney Tony Rackauckas said the investigation of further victims includes examining thousands of videos and images on Robicheaux’s phone.

Some videos show women who “appear to be highly intoxicated beyond the ability to consent or resist, and they’re barely responsive to the defendant’s sexual advances,” Rackauckas said.

He noted that the involvement of a woman in the alleged crimes is significant.

“The second defendant, being a female, is key,” Rackauckas said. “A woman purporting to be his girlfriend clearly played a significant role in disarming the victims, making them feel comfortable and safe.”

Alleged Crimes in 2016

Robicheaux and Riley have been charged in two 2016 incidents: allegedly getting one woman drunk and raping her on April 10, 2016, and trying to do the same thing to another woman on Oct. 2, 2016. The second woman woke up and screamed for help. A neighbor heard her and called the police.

The first woman went to the police the day after getting raped and underwent a forensic exam. She had been told she was going to a boat party but Robicheaux and Riley took her to their apartment.

An investigation by the police led to a search warrant, which police executed in January of this year and found two illegally owned assault rifles and four other firearms.

When the charges were announced, officials said there may be hundreds of other victims, noting that the defendants often traveled together to various festivals and locations since 2015, including the Burning Man festival, the Dirtybird Campout festival, and landmarks near Page, Arizona.

Besides being a surgeon, Robicheaux is well-known for appearing on the Bravo television show “Online Dating Rituals of the American Male.”

Defense attorneys said the suspects deny the claims. They’re scheduled to be arraigned on Oct. 25.
