Alan Bergman, the celebrated lyricist who helped shape the American songbook through decades of work in film, television, and theater, died Thursday at his home in Los Angeles. He was 99.
Bergman, who won numerous accolades alongside his wife and writing partner Marilyn Bergman, had been experiencing respiratory issues in recent months but continued writing until his final days, according to a family spokesperson. His daughter, Julie Bergman, was by his side when he passed.
