Retired Judge Frank Caprio, the Rhode Island municipal judge whose compassion in the courtroom made him a viral figure across television and social media, died Aug. 20 at the age of 88 following a battle with pancreatic cancer.

News of his passing was announced on his official Instagram account, which shared a photo of the late judge along with a tribute.
