James Woods, one of Tinseltown’s few conservative stars, on Wednesday voiced his outrage regarding the Colorado Supreme Court’s decision to prohibit former President Donald Trump from appearing on the 2024 presidential ballot.

“Donald Trump has never been found guilty of any crime, ever. Most certainly he has never been convicted of insurrection,” Mr. Woods wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter. “The real ‘war on democracy’ is being waged in Colorado.”
Mr. Woods concluded his comment with “#Shame.”

Colorado Court Uses ‘Insurrection Clause’ to Boot Trump

On Tuesday, the Court in a 4–3 opinion ruled that the Constitution’s “Insurrection Clause” prohibits President Trump from appearing on the ballot for the presidency in 2024.

“The court found by clear and convincing evidence that President Trump engaged in insurrection as those terms are used in Section Three of the Fourteenth Amendment,” the ruling reads.

The controversial ruling partially reverses a prior ruling from Colorado District Court Judge Sarah Wallace. In November, she ruled that Trump is not an officer of the United States as defined by the 14th Amendment and the amendment therefore cannot be used to disqualify him from appearing on the Colorado primary ballot.

However, the Court, which is made up of seven justices, each of whom was appointed by a Democrat, disagreed with Trump’s claims that his actions were protected by the First Amendment.

“We consider and reject President Trump’s argument that his speech on January 6 was protected by the First Amendment,” the ruling reads, appearing to ignore the former president’s calls that day for protesters to conduct themselves “peacefully and patriotically.”

Trump campaign spokesman Steven Cheung issued a response, calling the Colorado Supreme Court’s decision “completely flawed” and noting that the Trump camp will “swiftly file an appeal to the United States Supreme Court and a concurrent request for a stay of this “deeply undemocratic decision.”

“We have full confidence that the Supreme Court will quickly rule in our favor and finally put an end to these unAmerican lawsuits,” it added.

Hollywood Elite Rejoice

Meanwhile, many Hollywood celebrities, including Bette Midler, Mia Farrow, Rob Reiner, and George Takei, not only expressed their support for Tuesday’s ruling but publicly delighted in it.
“THANK YOU, #COLORADO! The first state in the Union to throw #Trump off the ballot!!” wrote Ms. Midler on X.

Ms. Farrow wrote: “A person who initiated a rebellion in order to retain power, then when it failed, insisted our election was invalid - a lie that has caused enduring division & damage, should not be anywhere near the WH but rather in prison with those who did his bidding.”

Mr. Reiner, well-known for his political activism, also agreed with the ruling.

“Nice to see a little sanity poking its head up,” he wrote on X.

Meanwhile, Mr. Takei referred to the Colorado court as “heroes” and Bravo’s “Top Chef” host Padma Lakshmi wrote on the platform, “So glad someone has some common sense!”

Woods Doesn’t Back Down

Mr. Woods, also well known for expressing his political views on X, clocked over a million views on his comment, along with 2,500 comments.

Back in October, the Oscar-nominated actor criticized President Joe Biden after his press conference in Israel, during which the president appeared to mumble incoherently and lose his train of thought.

“We are minutes from the end on the Doomsday Clock with this soulless fool in charge. He has GOT to go. Literally the fate of mankind is at stake,” the actor wrote on X.

Mr. Woods has also called out ongoing efforts to take down Trump and accused the political left of launching an “unrelenting assault” on the former president in an effort to take him off the 2024 presidential ballot.
