A mother in California says a man broke into their home using a garage door opener and the began assaulting her child.

At around 3:53 a.m., police said they received a call from a mother saying that a man broke into their home in Rohnert Park and assaulted her 8-year-old daughter, reported KRON4.

The girl woke up and started screaming. The man ran out of their house in the nude, according to the report.

Police believe that the man, Noah Holland, got into their home with a garage door opener that was found in an unlocked car. They found Holland’s property in the girl’s room. The family said they don’t know the suspect.

A second man who was seen walking with Holland was also arrested, NBC Bay Area reported. Tristan Ford, 18, provided information to police about Holland’s activity that evening. He was later placed in police custody.

Ford was charged with burglary, conspiracy, and violation of probation.

Holland, according to KRON, was not cooperative with the investigation.

Commander Aaron Johnson told ABC7 of the incident and how it unfolded: “[The] mother heard her daughter’s screams – when she went into the bedroom the suspect was gone but evidence was left behind.”

He said the girl screamed and fought back.

“We feel the brave actions of the victim averted a real tragedy,” he said.
