When used tastefully, neon can be a great way to create a unique and tasteful atmosphere in your home.

Neon colors were very popular back in the 80’s, and while they faded out of fashion, they’re starting to make a comeback –in a big way.

This time around though, designers are using neon sparingly, and are adapting a “less is more” approach. Instead of decking out the entire room in brightly colored details, look for ways to use these vibrant colors to make a bold and powerful statement.

If you’ve always been partial towards neon, and are curious if there’s a way to make these colors work in your home, here are a few ideas for using neon in your home.

Accent Details

Neon colors are bold and strong, and can make great accent colors. Neon artwork, throw pillows, trim, or countertop appliances can all serve as bright, colorful elements in the home –just take care to balance them out with a subdued background, ideally something neutral or white.

Combine With Muted Tones

Another great way to use neon colors is by combining them with muted versions of the same color. The muted tones will help the neon to blend in while still making a bright and colorful statement.

Choose a Statement Piece

One of the best ways to make neon work in your home is to choose a special piece of art, or a piece of furniture as a statement piece. Instead of overloading the senses, the bright colors can serve as a focal point in the room.

If you’re looking to add some vibrancy to your home, you don’t have to paint an entire room in bright shade, consider an accent wall –or start with some throw pillows. When used sparingly neon can make a beautiful statement, just remember that a little bit of neon goes a long way.
