A UK family is celebrating the arrival of a newborn baby girl, whose birth marks the fifth generation of women in their family alive at the same time.
Little Teya Jones—born on April 5, weighing 7lb 5oz—is the latest addition to the Jones brood.
Incredibly, her arrival makes it the second time in living memory that the family from Shrewsbury has had five girls from five different generations in one picture.
The ladies are separated by 89 years from oldest to youngest—with great-great-grandmother Audrey Skitt being the matriarch of the family. Little Tenya is joined by her mom, Evie Jones, 18, grandmother Kim Jones, 51, and great-grandmother Lindsey Jones, 70.
The first time the family reached the rare five-generation milestone was 52 years ago when Ms. Skitt, then 37, Lindsey, then 19, and a baby Kim proudly appeared in their local newspaper the Shropshire Star. At that time, they were joined by Ms. Skitt’s mom, Gladys Blumfield, then 61, and Ms. Blumfield’s mom, Martha Dodd, then aged 81.
Ms. Blumfield passed away in 1982, aged 71, while Ms. Dodd died in 1985 at the age of 94.
Now after 52 years, the family is able to celebrate again after the birth of Teya.
“I was so excited when we heard Evie was going to give birth,“ Ms. Kim Jones, a hairdresser, said. ”It is so nice to have five generations of our family once more and to pass that on to the baby.”
The last time, Ms. Kim Jones was the baby in the family, and now she is the grandmother.
“We are a pretty large family, and every year my mom throws a big party at the end of the summer,” she said. “So we are really looking forward to introducing Teya to the rest of the family when we have a get-together.
“My gran isn’t in amazing health, so it’s all in her honor really.”
Ms. Kim Jones said having five generations of women in the family is quite “rare,” and for it to happen twice in the family is “remarkable.”
The multi-generational quintet hails from Shrewsbury where they were all born and have worked their whole lives.
Ms. Skitt, who also has four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, used to work in a cake shop in the town.
Ms. Lindsey Jones worked for a building company and was later a barmaid in a pub.
The new mom, Ms. Evie Jones, works in hospitality and is a restaurant supervisor.
“It’s really amazing but quite odd to be this family of five girls for the second time,” she said. “Teya is amazing. It’s obviously very tiring, but I’m really glad to have introduced her to her gran, great-gran and great-great-gran.
“We are a big family so we haven’t got around to seeing everyone within the extended family yet, but we are working on it.”
